There is a moment in certain rooms when everything changes. A speaker steps to the microphone. She does not open with her credentials. She does not cite a study or quote a bestseller. She opens with a sentence so precise, so unflinching, that every woman in the room stops breathing for a second -- because what she just said named something they had never been able to name themselves. That is not charisma. That is authority.

There is a particular kind of loss that no one prepares you for. Not the loss of a marriage, a home, or a relationship  --  though those are real and devastating. The loss I'm referring to is quieter and more disorienting than any of those. It is the loss of yourself.
